THE GROWING COHORT: HOMELESSNESS AND OLDER WOMEN IN GIPPSLAND

by Alyssa Fritzlaff

Friends couches. Share houses. Sleeping rough.

These are the ways hundreds of women over 55 years old in Gippsland are experiencing homelessness, and they are a cohort rapidly growing.

They are mothers, grandmothers, wives and daughters, but have been caught up in a whirlwind of rising inflation, gender inequality, and the Gippsland housing crisis. Even after they reach out for help, it can be hard to access long-term support and housing that gets them back on their feet and integrated back into the community.
